About

CoursesHub.World — Free University-Level Science

CoursesHub.World is a free, open-access education platform for graduate-level courses in the natural sciences. The site offers rigorous treatments of physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics and earth sciences, built around derivations, interactive simulations, and links into the primary literature. Every course is free and nothing is gated.

Who makes this

CoursesHub.World is written and maintained by Bart Mercier, an independent researcher working at the intersection of physics, biology and the earth sciences. It is a personal project, kept free and open — a place to learn graduate-level science from first principles, for anyone with a browser.

It exists because that place was hard to find. There is no shortage of excellent open material — MIT OpenCourseWare, decades of recorded lectures, the primary literature itself — but it is scattered, and stitching it into one coherent subject that builds on itself is work most people never get to do. The site is an attempt to do that work once, in public, and give it away.

Related work includes books in progress on the ocean–atmosphere system and on plasma physics, and Quantum Proteins AI, applying AI and quantum methods to the behaviour of proteins. Corrections and suggestions are genuinely welcome — the contact page reaches a real person.

What makes the site different

  • Derivation-first. Course pages do not just state results — they derive them. Equations are typeset with MathJax, with full steps from first principles wherever possible.
  • Interactive widgets. Browser-side simulations (membrane potentials, signaling cascades, ODE integrators, 3D molecular structures via the RCSB Protein Data Bank) accompany the text where they help build intuition.
  • Cross-course coherence. Topics that appear across multiple disciplines (e.g., the TCA cycle in cell physiology / metabolism / cancer biology) cross-link consistently rather than re-explaining the same material.
  • Open and free. No accounts required to read, and no advertising. Every course, every page and every runnable program is free, permanently. An optional subscription buys LaTeX-typeset PDFs of the course sections — it adds a format, it does not unlock the science.

License & use

Original course content on CoursesHub.World — the writing, the derivations, the diagrams and the runnable programs — is published under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-SA 4.0).

In plain terms: copy it, redistribute it, adapt it, build a course on top of it, commercially or not. Two conditions — credit Bart Mercier and link back to courseshub.world, and release anything you build from it under the same licence, so it stays as open as it arrived.

This covers the material written here. Embedded third-party resources — PDB structures, video lectures, textbook excerpts — belong to their original creators and keep their own licences; nothing on this page changes those terms.
