Lateral Plate Motion

Transform boundaries accommodate lateral motion between tectonic plates. Unlike divergent and convergent boundaries, crust is neither created nor destroyedβ€”plates slide horizontally past one another along strike-slip faults. These boundaries produce some of the world's most damaging earthquakes and connect segments of mid-ocean ridges.
